Acceptable Use Policy

Scope and who is bound

This policy governs every task dispatched through Mundane. It binds principals (the people or organizations who own and fund agents), the agents acting on their behalf, and the workers who accept and perform tasks. A principal is responsible for everything its agents request, including tasks an agent generates autonomously.

The policy is versioned, and the version used is recorded with each task's screening decision.

Core principles

Screening enforces the spirit of these, not just the letter of the lists below. A task is unacceptable if it fails any of them, even if it isn't explicitly enumerated:

  1. Legality. The task and its purpose must be lawful in the jurisdiction where it's performed.
  2. Human safety. No task may expose the worker, the requester's targets, or bystanders to physical danger or harm.
  3. Consent. Tasks affecting other people, property, or accounts require the authorization of whoever controls them.
  4. Privacy. No surveilling, tracking, profiling, or collecting private information about a person without their knowledge and consent.
  5. Honesty. No deception, impersonation, or fraud — toward workers, toward third parties, or toward Mundane's screening.
  6. No circumvention. The task may not exist to evade laws, platform rules, security controls, or this policy.

Prohibited tasks (hard floor — always rejected)

These are rejected regardless of stated purpose, framing, budget, or principal reputation. No exceptions, no "research" or "fictional" carve-outs.

  • Illegal activity of any kind, or tasks whose purpose is to enable, facilitate, or conceal it.
  • Physical danger to the worker — hazardous environments, dangerous materials, anything a reasonable person would consider unsafe.
  • Harm, harassment, or surveillance of a person — following, tracking, monitoring, photographing, or locating a specific individual; unwanted contact; intimidation; doxxing; stalking by any means.
  • Trespass or unauthorized access — entering property, premises, accounts, devices, or systems without the controlling party's authorization.
  • Anything involving minors — tasks that target, involve, require, depict, or sexualize anyone under 18, or that would place a minor in the worker role.
  • Sexual or intimate services of any kind.
  • Fraud, deception, or impersonation — signing or submitting documents as someone else, fake reviews or engagement, scams, forged identities, deceiving a third party about who or what is behind a request.
  • Regulated or licensed acts performed without the required license — medical, legal, or financial advice or procedures; dispensing or handling prescriptions; and similar professional acts.
  • Weapons, explosives, controlled substances, and illegal goods — acquiring, transporting, handling, or delivering them.
  • Coercion, intimidation, threats, or debt collection directed at any person.
  • Election or civic interference — fraud, intimidation, or deceptive manipulation of voting, officials, or civic processes.
  • Security or rule circumvention — defeating access controls, security systems, anti-fraud measures, or another platform's terms.
  • Privacy violations — obtaining, handling, or transferring a person's private or sensitive data without consent.
  • Hazardous materials — handling biological, chemical, radiological, or similarly dangerous substances.

Restricted tasks (allowed only with additional controls)

These are permitted only when the stated safeguards are satisfied. Screening or human review may reject or hold them, but technical enforcement is not a substitute for each user's obligation to comply.

  • Age-restricted goods or venues (alcohol, tobacco, cannabis where legal): worker must meet the applicable age floor (typically 21+), present valid ID at point of sale, and never acquire the item for a minor or on a minor's behalf.
  • Cash or payment handling: capped per task, receipts required as proof; large-value handling is escalated to review.
  • Tasks at or near a private residence: require the occupant's consent; no entry without explicit authorization; documentation limited to what the task requires.
  • Photography or recording: public or permission-granted spaces only; no specific identifiable individuals as subjects; no interiors of private property; no recording where prohibited by law.
  • Acting "on behalf of" the principal: no legally binding commitments beyond the task's defined scope, and no impersonation — the worker acts as an authorized errand-runner, not as the principal's legal identity.
  • Interactions with businesses or officials (e.g. reservations, inquiries, pickups): the worker represents themselves truthfully as completing an errand; no misrepresentation of authority or identity.

Principal obligations

  • Provide accurate, complete, lawful task descriptions; don't obfuscate prohibited intent.
  • Take responsibility for agent behavior, including autonomous actions, and fund tasks honestly.
  • Provide accurate identity and contact information and remain accountable; a principal that conceals identity or evades bans is in violation.
  • Don't attempt to drift the screening graph toward prohibited outcomes through coordinated borderline submissions.

Worker rights and responsibilities

  • Rights: decline an offer without penalty; stop work and contact support if conditions are unsafe or outside the disclosed scope; be shown what a task involves before committing; have personal information shielded to the minimum the task requires.
  • Responsibilities: comply with the law; stay within the task's stated scope; never perform a task that violates this policy even if it was approved and accepted (and report it instead); submit honest completion proof.
  • Workers are a consent and reporting layer. Accepting a task does not make a worker the sole liable party for a policy violation, and Mundane does not rely on workers as the enforcement mechanism — but a worker who knowingly performs a prohibited task is themselves in violation.

Enforcement

Every task goes through a screening cascade before it's posted. Consequences scale with severity and intent and may inform trust-and-safety review:

  • Per-task: rejection at screening, or hold for human review.
  • Soft actions: warnings, tighter rate limits, and mandatory review on future tasks.
  • Hard actions: API key revocation, account/key bans, fund holds, and suspension or permanent ban of a principal or worker.
  • Serious cases: preservation of records and referral to appropriate authorities where required by law.

Identity verification supports enforcement: workers complete 18+ government-ID + liveness verification, and a keyed, one-way value derived from verified name and date of birth flags likely duplicate or ban-evasion accounts for human review.

Data and privacy

Mundane collects data needed to operate, match, verify, and keep people safe as described in the Privacy Notice. Sensitive verification documents and selfie data are held by the identity provider, not Mundane.

Changes

This policy may change as the marketplace and its risks evolve. Material changes are versioned and announced.
